Consulate General Spokesperson's Remarks:Overseas Chinese Enterprises' Projects Maintain Operations Smoothly and Orderly
2020/04/28

In our consular districts, Chinese companies and institutions have taken action to ensure work continuity and pandemic precautions. They strictly abide by government regulations and CDC guidelines and donated large amounts of medical equipment to the local community. Meanwhile, they adjust operations and construction planning scientifically and efficiently to ensure employees’ safety and wellbeing, as well as job site continuity, which demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility during the pandemic outbreak.

I would like to raise an example here. China Construction America (CCA)’s Wittpenn Bridge project is a significant infrastructure project of the New Jersey Department of Transportation(NJDOT) and allowed to work by the authorities. Their team adjusted the construction plan immediately by reducing the number of onsite crew to about 40 people, implementing a staff rotation plan, and operating dynamically to ensure the work was being conducted safely and efficiently. Since April, the team has completed the sheaves erection and installation of secondary reducers for the bridge’s life-span control and machinery system, as well as the installation and bolt-up of nearly 100 tons of structural steel, making significant progress in the bridge’s construction. There were no confirmed cases among the staff nor any incidents on the sites, which is appreciated by NJDOT. CCA currently has 19 construction sites like this, including the Long Island Rail Road Third Track Project, the MTA’s largest single-phase project in terms of the contract value. Besides, CCA’s real estate investment and development business adopts a “zero-contact” virtual mode for sales, leasing and property management.

As can be seen from this example, the trade, economic and financial cooperation between China and the US is mutually beneficial in nature. It brings tangible benefits to China and US, as well as their two peoples. Just as President Xi said to President Trump in a recent phone conversation, both sides stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. Cooperation is the only right choice. We hope the US will work with China toward the same goal, follow the leaders' consensus, enhance anti-epidemic cooperation, develop China-US relations featuring no conflict or confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and deliver greater benefits to people in China, the US and beyond.

Virus know no borders and are the enemy of mankind. Only by working together can we defeat it. Upholding the vision of with a shared future for mankind, China is ready to work with other countries to actively combat the pandemic, strengthen international cooperation, and make every effort to maintain the stability of the global industrial and supply chains, so as to minimize the adverse impact of the pandemic on the world economy.
