When attending the China-US Relations Seminar, Huang Ping said that he was very happy to visit the famous Ivy League School, University of Pennsylvania. University of Pennsylvania has had a long history with China. Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin were widely acquainted in the experience of studying abroad at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1920s. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Over the past 40 years, China-US relations have achieved tremendous development, which not only brings tangible benefits to the people from the two nations but also make great contributions to world peace and human progress. At present, the daily trade volume between China and the United States is as high as 1.8 billion U.S. dollars, and the annual personnel exchanges reach 5.2 million. China-US relations are facing some difficulties now. Some people in the United States are speculating on "decoupling" between China and the United States. However, in fact, the two countries have already become a community of mutual interests. Advocating the "decoupling" between China and the United States is tantamount to idiotic dreams.
Huang Ping emphasized that humanities exchange is the foundation of bilateral relations, and education cooperation is an important part of humanities exchanges. Since 2014, China and the United States have issued mutual business and tourist visas which valid for more than ten years, which has facilitated cultural exchanges between education, culture, and tourism between the two countries. Nearly 400,000 Chinese students are currently studying aboard in the United States. The potential for cooperation between China and the United States in education is still enormous. The Consulate General is willing to support the exchange and cooperation between University of Pennsylvania and Chinese universities. It is hoped that the two sides will work together to deepen exchanges and cooperation, continuously enhance mutual trust between the two countries, and jointly promote the healthy and stable development of China-US relations.
Huang Ping answered more than 10 questions about the development of China, China-US economic and trade relations, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the visa policy. University of Pennsylvania has expressed their gratitude to Huang Ping for his open and frank communication, which brings a deeper understanding of China and US-China relations. U.S.-China relations are one of the most important bilateral relations. No one wants the two countries to fall into confrontation. University of Pennsylvania is committed to international exchanges and will continue to develop cooperation with China.
