Deputy Consul General Zhang Meifang of the Chinese Consulate General in New York was invited to visit National Broadcasting Company (NBC) Headquarters at Rockefeller Center in New York on February 23, 2017. Three vice presidents of NBC – Richard Greenberg, Matt Zimmerman and Janelle Rodrignez – as well as senior editors, journalists, moderators, etc. all came together in a meeting room to exchange their views on common concerns.
Zhang Meifang praised NBC's attention and active coverage on China-U.S. Relations and China's economic and social development. She also introduced a series of international and domestic major events, such as China's NPC &CPPCC 2017 Annual sessions, the International Cooperation Summit Forum on the "one Belt and one Road" Initiative, the Ninth BRICS Summit, the 19th CPC National Congress, etc. Zhang encouraged NBC to uphold the principle of impartial, objective, comprehensive and balanced reporting and speak out the voice from China to the U.S. Government and people, so to achieve the enhancement of mutual understanding between the two countries, as well as between the people from the two countries.
NBC is part of the Big Three television networks in the U.S. with a peacock as the broadcast television network's official emblem. "Nightly News" is the prime time program, as well as one of the most watched evening news in the U.S. The anchor Lester Holt moderated the first U.S. presidential candidates' debates in 2016.
