It is my great pleasure to join you at this star-studded opening ceremony of the 3rd New York Chinese Film Festival. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, I would like to extend warm congratulations on the opening of the Festival. I also want to extend my warm welcome to the delegation from China, to all the directors, actors and actresses.
As the world's largest and third largest film markets respectively, the United States and China have witnessed ever-growing cooperation in the film sector, which have greatly benefited the people in the industry and viewers of our two nations. During his visit to the US last February, Vice President Xi Jinping announced that China would increase the quota of imported foreign films to 34 annually. In September, Wanda Group of China completed its acquisition of AMC Entertainment. I believe that, with the development of China-US relations, the mutually-beneficial cooperation in the film sector will further gain momentum.
The 3rd New York Chinese Film Festival will present several A-list movie stars from the mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan as well as Chinese films with great casts, exciting stories, and exquisite pictures. Through these films, I hope the American audience can attain a better understanding of the Chinese culture, the Chinese society and the Chinese people.
