On February24, Chinese Consul General in New York Huang Ping attended the 1st Annual Brooklyn Lantern Festival Parade in Brooklyn, New York and delivered remarks. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, New York State Assembly member Lester Chang, William Colton, Grace Lee and William A. Barclay, New York State Senator Iwen Chu, New York City Council member Susan Zhuang, Christopher Marte, Farah N. Louis and Julie Menin, NYPD Deputy Commissioner Tarik Sheppard, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Congressman Hakeem Jeffriess representative Harris Bresowsky, Mayor of Zhangjiajie City of Hunan Province Hongbin Wang, and friends from all walks of life attended the event.

In his speech, Huang Ping extended warm greetings and best wishes to all guests. He said that the Lantern Festival is not only a traditional festival for family reunion, but also an important moment for reviewing the past year and embarking on new journeys. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S. Over the past 45 years, despite the ups and downs, the China-U.S. relationship has on the whole moved forward, which has not only enhanced the well-being of the two peoples, but also promoted world peace, stability and prosperity. He briefed on the significance and outcomes of the China-U.S. Summit Meeting in San Francisco, and called on all friends to continue to work together, constantly injecting new positive energy into China-U.S. relations and promoting the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

John Chan, President of the Asian American Community Empowerment (BRACE) and organizer of the event said that the BRACE will continue to organize various cultural activities to further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and American people.

Mayor Adams and other guests in their speeches extended Lunar New Year's greetings to the Chinese communities and highly valued the the important contributions made by the Chinese communities to the development and prosperity of New York.

Traditional Chinese cultural activities such as dragon and lion dances, as well as Qipao and Hanfu fashion shows, were held at the parade, drawing in over 30,000 spectators cheering. People shared joy of the festival, sent greetings to each other and expressed hope and confidence for a brighter future of China-U.S. friendship.
